Cincinnati USA to host inaugural

December 2006 event will draw 20,000 for multi-sport competitions ...

CINCINNATI (May 3, 2006) – The Greater Cincinnati Sports Corp (GCSC) today announced Cincinnati USA will host the inaugural Cincinnati Winter Sports Festival December 15-17, 2006 drawing some 8,000 amateur athletes to compete in sixteen national and/or regional sporting/athletic events.

The three-day event, which will fill 3,500 downtown and Northern Kentucky hotel rooms, is expected to attract up to 20,000 spectators.

Participating events include: USA Weightlifting, World of Wrestling (WOW) Youth Wrestling, Universal Cheerleaders Association, USA Men’s Gymnastics, USA Women’s Gymnastics, National Collegiate Boxing Association and USA Boxing, Universal Dance Association, USA Trampoline & Tumbling, IBO Archery and the following martial arts: Taekwondo (Olympic Style),  KungFu, SanShu/full contact, TaiChi, Wushu, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

According to Leslie Spencer, director of the GCSC, additional events may be added as other rights holders learn about the Festival. A contractual agreement was reached among CWSF owners and GCSC that will keep the event in Cincinnati USA through 2010.

“The Cincinnati Winter Sports Festival will showcase Cincinnati as an outstanding destination for amateur athletic events,” said Susan Noonan, chairperson for the Greater Cincinnati Sports Corp. “Our attractions combined with our hospitality make Cincinnati a terrific place for families to visit for athletic competitions.”

This event filled weekend will also include a health and fitness expo featuring more than 100 vendors and exhibits. There will be a nominal fee for admissions including a weekend pass.
